A major investigation is underway following a violent stabbing and arson attack that occurred on Sunday in Ipswich, southeast Queensland. Emergency services were summoned to a residence on Cascade Street at approximately 4:30 PM after reports emerged that two individuals had been stabbed and a structure was engulfed in flames.
Details of the Incident
According to Queensland Police, a heated argument among a group of individuals who were known to one another escalated into a violent confrontation. A teenage boy sustained critical stab wounds to his abdomen and was rushed to Queensland Children's Hospital in a life-threatening condition. A woman in her 50s suffered stab wounds to her chest and hands and was transported to Mater Hospital in a stable condition.
Arson and Arrest
The alleged assailant also set fire to a home on the same street. Firefighters managed to bring the blaze under control. The suspect was arrested and is currently assisting police with their inquiries.
In a statement, Queensland Police said: 'There is no ongoing threat to the community and investigations are ongoing. There is no further information available at this time.'
