Watchdog Adds Nick Stapleton and Amber Haque to Presenter Line-Up
Watchdog Adds Nick Stapleton and Amber Haque

The consumer rights programme Watchdog has revealed two new additions to its presenting team: Nick Stapleton, son of the late former hosts John Stapleton and Lynn Faulds Wood, and broadcaster and documentary filmmaker Amber Haque.

New Presenters Join Watchdog

BAFTA-winning presenter and consumer journalist Nick Stapleton, along with Amber Haque, will join Matt Allwright and Nikki Fox in producing films that aim to raise consumer awareness among the public. Watchdog originally aired as a standalone series from 1985 to 2019 before becoming a segment on The One Show in 2020.

Nick Stapleton's Legacy

Nick's first report is scheduled to air on Wednesday. He follows in the footsteps of his parents, John Stapleton and Lynn Faulds Wood, who presented the programme together from 1986 to 1993. John Stapleton passed away in 2025, while Lynn Faulds Wood died in 2020. Nick, aged 38, also co-presents the acclaimed series Scam Interceptors on BBC One.

Reflecting on his appointment, Nick said: 'Uncovering scams and fighting for consumer fairness is in my blood. I grew up watching my mum doorstepping people and holding them to account, and it lit a fire in me. My parents aren't around any more, so there is a real poignancy in joining Watchdog, a programme that was such a huge part of our lives. I truly believe in public service broadcasting and it's a privilege to join Matt, Nikki and Amber to continue that legacy.'

Amber Haque's Background

Manchester-based Amber Haque's work spans BBC Three documentaries, hit podcasts, and international productions. On joining Watchdog, she commented: 'I grew up watching The One Show and Watchdog and so much of my work now looks at how digital culture and modern systems are affecting people's lives. What makes Watchdog so special is how it holds power to account while staying human and accessible, so it's a really exciting moment to be joining the team.'

Reactions from Existing Presenters

Long-standing Watchdog star Matt Allwright said: 'In Amber and Nick we've got two of the most talented investigative journalists around. I'm delighted that they're going to be part of the team and I know they will take Watchdog from strength to strength.' Nikki Fox added: 'It's an exciting time for Watchdog on The One Show. With Nick and Amber, we'll be able to cover even more of the stories that matter to audiences across the UK. They're both brilliant and I can't wait to welcome them.'

Editor's Comments

Joanne Vaughan-Jones, Editor of The One Show, stated: 'Watchdog remains one of the BBC's most trusted brands. At a time when consumer issues are evolving rapidly, its role has never been more vital - and with Matt, Nikki, Nick and Amber, we have a brilliant team ready to deliver real impact.'

In separate news, The One Show star Alex Jones has been documenting her plans to renovate her sprawling £2.8 million property in Ascot, Berkshire. She purchased the four-bedroom Georgian house in July 2024 without her husband Charlie Thomson having seen it. Speaking to The Times, Alex explained: 'We need to do a lot of work but the bones of the house are lovely. I saw it on my own originally because my husband, Charlie, was in New Zealand. I wrote a letter to Penelope [the owner] and explained why it would be a lovely home for the family. She wrote back and said, "You're exactly the type of person I want to sell this house to." When Charlie got back, I said, "Listen, I've sort of bought a house so we better go and see it." Luckily he loved it immediately. It felt like home when we walked in.'
