This year has been challenging for UK businesses, with numerous firms forced to shut down or appoint administrators. In recent weeks, a furniture retailer, a pizza company, and a therapy business have all entered administration. An airline is also among the latest casualties.
Millennium Dough Company
After more than 30 years of trading, Millennium Dough Company has shut its doors. The firm specialised in producing wholesale artisan frozen pizza dough from its West London base. Operating from Taunton Rd, Greenford, they concentrated on using premium ingredients and traditional baking methods. Previously known as Millennium Food Service, the business had accumulated numerous five-star Google reviews.
Barretts of Woodbridge
After 57 years in business, this well-loved furniture retailer was forced to call in administrators. The Suffolk-based company shut its store doors on 7 May, following a stock-clearance sale with discounts of 30% or more across all products. The firm confirmed that all outstanding orders would be fulfilled and delivered despite the closure.
European Cargo Ltd
This UK cargo airline has gone into administration, leaving 178 employees without jobs. The company stopped trading following the appointment of administrators on June 3. The airline, which ran freight flights from Bournemouth Airport and had recently launched routes from Teesside Airport, cited reduced flying activity and soaring fuel costs as the driving forces behind its collapse.
Capricorn Automotive Limited
The UK arm of an international engineering company with a history stretching back more than 90 years has gone into administration. Capricorn Automotive Limited, the British division of German technology group Capricorn, appointed administrators at the end of May. The company, headquartered at Lutyens Industrial Centre in Basingstoke, produced engineering components for various industries.
Banbury Therapy Group
After 17 years in business, the company has been placed into administration, with reports suggesting it will transition to a not-for-profit model. The counselling and counselling training service brought in administrators last week. Neither customers nor jobs are expected to be affected. The firm's website states it has been offering safe, effective psychotherapy and mental health support in Banbury and North-Oxfordshire since 2009.
