Arsenal Transfer News: Tonali Hijack, Next Alexis Scouted

Arsenal are preparing for a busy summer transfer window after winning the Premier League title. Manager Mikel Arteta and sporting director Andrea Berta are working on plans to strengthen the squad with fewer but higher-calibre signings, following last year's record £250 million spend on six players.

Sandro Tonali Prefers Arsenal Over Tottenham

Arsenal may have an opportunity to hijack Tottenham's pursuit of Newcastle midfielder Sandro Tonali. According to the Daily Mail, the Italian international's preference is to join the Gunners rather than their north London rivals. Tottenham had an £80 million bid rejected by Newcastle last week and are expected to return with an improved offer.

Newcastle chiefs were reportedly surprised by Tottenham's bid, as they had only previously discussed a potential move to Arsenal or Manchester City. Arsenal were offered the chance to sign Tonali by his representatives on the last day of the January transfer window, but there wasn't enough time to finalise the deal. Speculation has persisted that the Gunners remain interested.

If Arsenal make an approach before Tottenham gain ground, they could successfully hijack a Spurs signing for the second time in a year. Last August, Eberechi Eze appeared destined for Tottenham before a last-minute U-turn saw Arteta move for the Crystal Palace star.

Dario Osorio: The 'Next Alexis Sanchez'

Danish side FC Midtjylland are expecting Arsenal to make a move for long-term target Dario Osorio. The 22-year-old winger, who has been compared to former Arsenal great Alexis Sanchez, was scouted by the Gunners last summer. Although a transfer did not materialise then, Osorio's impressive season in Denmark—with eight goals and 10 assists—has kept Arsenal interested.

FC Midtjylland's technical director Kristian Kjaer confirmed Arsenal's ongoing interest: "We know that Arsenal have been looking into Osorio, but we also know other clubs in the Premier League have done the same. I also think it is well known that Bournemouth looked into him historically."

Kjaer added: "In my opinion, he serves the Premier League very, very good because he has a hard-working mentality. His defensive transition runs are amazing, his top speed is amazing. Left-footed right winger can go to the right and to the left of his direct opponent. He has the full package, seen as the next Alexis Sanchez in Chile. I can see him making a difference in the Premier League."

Summer Transfer Plans

Arsenal are expected to kick their transfer business into gear in July, following the conclusion of the 2026 World Cup. With 15 Gunners players currently representing their nations at the tournament, the rest of the squad is on summer break. Arteta and Berta are focused on bringing in fewer but higher-quality additions to build on their title-winning campaign.
