This year at The Hoppings, the food offerings remain plentiful despite a slightly smaller layout due to essential drainage works on the Town Moor. Whether you are trying carnival games or thrill rides, hunger is inevitable, as the aroma of fried food envelops the fairground.
Feast Street USA: The Ultimate Food Destination
Amid the endless hot dog and churro stands, one area stands out: Feast Street USA. Easily identifiable by a central teepee with bright signage, it is located next to the 85-metre tall Elevate 85 ride. This cordoned-off zone features some of the only seating areas at the fair, including hay bales, allowing visitors to dine comfortably.
Inside, a variety of stalls offer award-winning food with generous portions. Attendees can enjoy Greek cuisine from Acropolis, crispy chicken from Chicken Ting, and bursting burgers from Davey's Burgers, which brings smash burgers to the event. Scott and Wilson from North Shields serve loaded fries with a "North East meets the Far East" twist, while Primal Feast adds to the local lineup.
Entertainment and Atmosphere
Feast Street USA also hosts character meet-and-greets; during a visit, Toy Story characters delighted children as parents captured photos. Live country music is played at various times throughout the day, although no official schedule is available. Additionally, it houses one of the only bars at the fair, offering pints to enjoy in the sunshine.
Supporting Local Businesses
What truly sets Feast Street USA apart is its focus on local vendors. Rather than buying from stalls that trade across the UK, visitors can support North East businesses at Europe's largest funfair. Acropolis was founded to bring Greek food to the region, Davey's started in the North East with a flagship store in Newcastle, and Chicken Ting sources from local farms. By eating at Feast Street USA, patrons help sustain these local enterprises.
