Julian Alvarez's agent has revealed that no club has made contact regarding a potential transfer, despite intense speculation linking the Atletico Madrid striker with a move away this summer. The Argentine forward, who joined Atletico from Manchester City two years ago, has been the subject of strong interest from Arsenal and Barcelona, while Real Madrid president Florentino Perez recently hinted at a blockbuster £130 million bid for an unnamed player, fueling rumors that Alvarez could be the target.
Agent Speaks Out on Transfer Rumors
Fernando Hidalgo, Alvarez's representative, moved to calm the growing transfer talk. In an interview with Mundo Deportivo, he stated: “We have no information on the matter and no one has contacted us about it.” This statement directly contradicts reports suggesting that Real Madrid had already initiated talks for the 26-year-old, who scored 20 goals last season for Diego Simeone's side.
Arsenal and Barcelona Circle
Arsenal, fresh off winning the Premier League title, are keen to bolster their attacking options after a disappointing Champions League final defeat. The Gunners signed Victor Gyokeres last summer, but the Swede's inconsistency has prompted them to eye further reinforcements. Barcelona, meanwhile, are seeking a replacement for Robert Lewandowski, whose contract expired, though their financial constraints may limit their spending power after already investing £70 million in Anthony Gordon.
Atletico Madrid have historically resisted selling their star players, with Antoine Griezmann's move to Barcelona in 2019 being a rare exception. However, manager Diego Simeone acknowledged that the decision ultimately rests with Alvarez. “This isn’t a question for me; it’s a question for Julian. He’s old enough to know what he’s going to do, and I imagine he’s already made his decision,” Simeone said.
What’s Next for Alvarez?
With the summer transfer window approaching, Alvarez's future remains uncertain. While his agent has denied any current negotiations, the player's impressive form and the financial muscle of potential suitors like Arsenal and Real Madrid could spark a bidding war. Atletico are under no pressure to sell, but the allure of a Premier League move or a switch to Real Madrid might prove tempting for the Argentine international.
