Coca-Cola has announced a major change to its iconic 1955 cans in UK supermarkets, altering both pricing and pack strategy to make products more affordable and appealing to customers. The soft drink giant will supply lower-cost items, larger packs, and premium items to cater to a range of budgets.
New Sizes and Pricing
Coca-Cola Chief Executive John Murphy revealed at the Deutsche Bank consumer conference that customers will notice differently sized products on shelves in the coming months. The changes come as demand for Coca-Cola products is currently "uneven." Murphy emphasized that the adjustments aim to keep prices affordable for budget-conscious shoppers.
Research by Coca-Cola showed that consumers earning between $50,000 and $60,000 (approximately £37,000 to £45,000) are financially "stretched." To continue appealing to this demographic, the company will introduce smaller, single-serve products at lower prices. At the same time, larger packs and premium items will be available for those looking to treat themselves.
Recent Innovations
These changes follow the recent launch of the "game-changing" Superfan can in supermarkets. This larger 500ml can, compared to the typical 330ml, offers customers more of their favorite beverage while maintaining a "premium feel" over a bottle.
The strategy reflects Coca-Cola's effort to adapt to shifting consumer spending habits, ensuring that its products remain accessible across different income levels.
