Dyson shuts Trafford Centre store after four years

Dyson has suddenly closed its concept store at the Trafford Centre, just four years after a much-trumpeted launch that sparked huge interest among shoppers. The electricals giant shuttered its boutique on Upper Peel Avenue, trading for the final time last week.

What the store offered

The boutique showcased Dyson's full range of electricals, including coveted Airwrap hairstylers, hairdryers, humidifiers, headphones, and various vacuum cleaners. In a major first for the north, the shop also featured a Dyson hairstyling boutique at the back, where customers could book appointments for tutorials and have their hair styled by Dyson experts.

The store proved popular with gift buyers, offering a personalisation station where initials could be embossed onto haircare tools like the £479.99 Airwrap and £400 Supersonic hairdryers.

Closure details

The black shutters are now down for good, and the store appears emptied of all stock. Information boxes outside have also been cleared. The Trafford Centre declined to comment but confirmed Dyson had come to the end of its lease. It is understood the shop last traded on June 2.

Dyson has not yet commented on the closure. A new retailer for the prime unit near Selfridges and the main dome has not been confirmed, but it is unlikely to stay empty for long.

Impact on Greater Manchester

There is now no standalone Dyson store at the Trafford Centre or anywhere in Greater Manchester. However, fans can still buy Dyson products at Selfridges, John Lewis, and Boots in the Trafford Centre, as well as online. Only four other UK Dyson Demo Stores remain, all in southern England: Bluewater Shopping Centre in Kent, Bicester Shopping Village in Oxfordshire, and on Oxford Street and Harrods in London.

Recent Trafford Centre closures

Other recent closures include Claire's Accessories on Regent Crescent, while Quiz Clothing is in the midst of a closing-down sale after the company collapsed into administration, with all UK stores set to close by the end of June. Franco Manca pizza restaurant has also closed in The Orient, but its replacement, Forbici, has already been confirmed. Las Iguanas was another big closure, swiftly replaced by Dave's Hot Chicken, which is due to open this summer.
