Dyson Trafford Centre store closes after four years

Dyson has abruptly closed its concept store at the Trafford Centre in Manchester, just four years after its highly-publicised opening. The electronics giant's boutique on Upper Peel Avenue traded for the final time on 2 June, with black shutters now permanently pulled down and all merchandise cleared from the premises.

Store details and services

The Dyson store showcased the company's complete range of electrical products, including sought-after Airwrap hairstylers, hairdryers, humidifiers, headphones and vacuum cleaners. It was the first Dyson store in the North to feature a hairstyling boutique at the rear, where clients could book tutorials and have their hair styled by specialists. The store also offered a personalisation service, embossing initials on haircare devices such as the £479.99 Airwrap and £400 Supersonic hairdryer, making it a popular destination for gift buyers.

Reason for closure

The Trafford Centre declined to comment on the closure but confirmed that Dyson had come to the end of its lease. The MEN has contacted Dyson for additional comment but has yet to receive a response. A replacement retailer has not been announced, though the prime location near Selfridges and the central dome is expected to attract a new tenant quickly.

Impact on Greater Manchester

The closure leaves Dyson without a dedicated store at the Trafford Centre or anywhere else in Greater Manchester. However, customers can still purchase Dyson products from Selfridges, John Lewis and Boots within the centre, as well as online. Dyson's official website lists four other UK Demo Stores, all in southern England: Bluewater Shopping Centre in Kent, Bicester Shopping Village in Oxfordshire, and on Oxford Street and Harrods in London.

Other recent closures at Trafford Centre

The Trafford Centre has seen several other closures in recent months. Claire's Accessories on Regent Crescent has shut, while Quiz Clothing is holding a closing down sale after the company entered administration, with all UK branches set to close by the end of June. Franco Manca pizza restaurant has also closed in The Orient, but its successor, Forbici, will open this summer. Las Iguanas has been replaced by Dave's Hot Chicken, which is under construction and scheduled to launch in the summer.
