Harvey Elliott's future at Liverpool remains uncertain after a loan spell at Aston Villa, but returning to Anfield could be his dream outcome this summer. New manager Andoni Iraola has indicated that all players will be given a clean slate, potentially offering Elliott a chance to reignite his career with the Reds.
Elliott's Liverpool Journey
The 23-year-old midfielder was a regular under Jurgen Klopp during the final years of the German's tenure. However, after Arne Slot took charge in 2024, Elliott found opportunities limited. Despite his lifelong support for Liverpool, he was loaned to Aston Villa in September 2025 with a £35 million obligation to buy, contingent on playing 10 Premier League games. He made only nine appearances for Villa, and a proposed January return to Liverpool fell through due to a lack of agreement between the clubs.
A Heartfelt Connection
Upon leaving Liverpool, Elliott posted an emotional farewell, stating: "When I joined Liverpool in 2019 it was a dream come true for me and my family. As a young child I travelled the world supporting the team as a fan and words will never be able to explain the feeling I had when I pulled on that famous red shirt for the first time as a player." His comments reflect his deep attachment to the club.
Iraola's Fresh Start
Andoni Iraola, who succeeded Slot after his dismissal, has promised all players a chance to impress. "We've analysed Liverpool a lot – possible weaknesses, the strengths," Iraola said. "I think we have a very good squad. For me, and I will tell them, [they] are all new signings. For me, you are all new signings and I think we have a lot of quality in our squad, and [I'm] really looking forward to working with them."
Opportunities Ahead
Elliott, who primarily plays on the right side of midfield, could benefit from the potential departure of club legend Mohamed Salah. With 15 goals in 149 appearances for Liverpool, he has proven his value. Speaking in 2022, Elliott said: "There's no better place to be [than Liverpool]. It feels like my second home." His rejection of Real Madrid interest in 2023 further underscores his loyalty.
While his future is not yet decided, a return to Liverpool and a chance to prove himself under Iraola could be the ideal outcome for both player and club this summer.
