Jeremy Clarkson's Diddly Squat Farm, the star of the hit Prime Video series Clarkson's Farm, has seen its value skyrocket since the former Top Gear presenter purchased it in 2008. Originally bought for £4.45 million, the 1,000-acre Cotswolds property is now estimated to be worth a staggering £12.5 million, according to recent valuations.
How much did Jeremy Clarkson pay for Diddly Squat Farm?
Clarkson purchased the farm, then known as Curdle Hill Farm, in 2008 for £4.45 million. He renamed it Diddly Squat, reflecting his low expectations for its profitability. In an interview with The Times, he explained his decision to buy land: 'Land is a better investment than any bank can offer. The Government doesn't get any of my money when I die. And the price of the food that I grow can only go up.' Despite owning the farm for over a decade, he only began working it full-time in 2019 after the previous manager retired.
What is the current value of Diddly Squat Farm?
The farm's value has grown significantly, partly due to a lavish six-bedroom house built on the site of the demolished former dwelling. The total estimated value of £12.5 million includes the land, the farm shop, and the café. Additionally, Clarkson purchased The Farmer's Dog pub in 2023 for £1 million, though its value after renovations remains unclear. The pub recorded a loss of £8,486 in its first four months of operation.
Income from the show and farming
Clarkson and the cast earn most of their income from salaries for producing the show, the amounts of which are undisclosed. While the farm's assets are valued at around £1.43 million, its annual profits are often minimal—sometimes just a few hundred pounds. In the latest series, Clarkson reported a deficit of over £8,000, despite The Farmer's Dog being fully booked daily.
Reflecting on his financial situation, Clarkson admitted: 'I could sell the farm and earn far more from the interest than I do from growing bread and beer and vegetable oil. But I like having it and for very good reasons, there are no death duties on farmland. So my children like me having it too.'
Clarkson's Farm series 5
The fifth series of Clarkson's Farm launched last week on Prime Video, with two additional episodes airing on Wednesday, 10th June. The show features Clarkson's farming adventures, including a remarkable autonomous tractor that impressed even his sceptical farmhand, Kaleb Cooper.
