Morrisons Free Fruit for Kids During World Cup Match Days
Morrisons Free Fruit for Kids During World Cup Match Days

Morrisons has launched a new initiative offering free fruit to eligible customers over the next three weeks. The supermarket announced on Wednesday, June 10, that it will give away free oranges to children visiting its stores on England and Scotland match days during the FIFA World Cup group stages.

Exact Dates for the Free Fruit Offer

The free orange giveaway begins on June 14 for Scotland's opening game, followed by their matches on June 19 and 24. For England supporters, the offer is available on June 17, 23, and 27. Children can collect their free orange at Morrisons Market Street while stocks last.

A Nostalgic Nod to Football Tradition

This promotion pays homage to the classic grassroots football tradition of orange slices at half-time. Morrisons aims to keep young fans refreshed and energized as they cheer on their teams. The initiative builds on the supermarket's long-standing practice of offering free fresh fruit to children since 2018 to help families achieve their five-a-day.

A Morrisons spokesperson said: "Whether the family is screaming at the telly from the sofa, throwing a wild match-day party, or the kids are chasing their own football glory in the back garden, Morrisons is making sure young supporters stay match-ready."

Welsh Fans Not Forgotten

Customers in Wales will also benefit, as Morrisons stores in Wales will continue to offer free fruit for kids at Market Street as usual.

Jacob Uren, Senior Citrus Trader at Morrisons, commented: "Encouraging children to enjoy fresh fruit has long been important to us at Morrisons, and orange slices are such a nostalgic part of football culture. We hope our free oranges help keep little fans refreshed, energised and ready to cheer on England and Scotland this summer."

Health Benefits of Oranges for Children

Oranges are a nutritious choice for children, rich in Vitamin C to support immune health and wound healing. The natural fibre aids digestion, while high water content helps hydration. Oranges also provide potassium, calcium, and phosphate for bone development and heart health, and Vitamin C aids iron absorption to maintain energy levels.
