A new restaurant is preparing to open in Liverpool city centre, but the company is keeping its identity 'confidential'. Job listings have appeared on recruitment website Indeed, with the venue's address stated as Queen Square.
Job Listings Reveal Clues
The new opening requires 'a hands-on general manager', stating 'this is not a clipboard manager role'. A brief description of the venue's nature describes it as a tapas restaurant and cocktail bar, with the suggestion there are a number already operating under an 'independent' company.
Queen Square's Tapas History
Queen Square has been home to several tapas restaurants over the years. In 2021, Tapas Revolution opened a 132-seat venue featuring a Spanish-style terrace that could accommodate more than 100 guests for outdoor dining and drinks. However, the restaurant has since closed. Prior to becoming Tapas Revolution, the site operated as La Tasca. The venue was later rebranded and relaunched by the Spanish Restaurant Group under the Tapas Revolution name.
The same premises is currently receiving renovation works and is one of the few Queen Square locations capable of welcoming a new company. The area has endured a busy few months, including the relocation of its longstanding Nando's site that upscaled to a new premises across the street, and rock band Enter Shikari hosting a surprise meet and greet in Paper Cup coffee house.
Thriving Tapas Scene Across Liverpool
Across the city, tapas concepts are thriving. In March last year, family-run tapas bar So Salsa launched its fourth location on Bold Street, taking over the former Smiffy's costume store. So Salsa first opened its doors in 2010 in Crosby and now operates in Blackstock Market and on Castle Street. The venue is part of the 23 Group, which owns both the Tree House and Rock Salt restaurants, also in Crosby. It expanded into Liverpool in 2022, serving up Spanish-inspired small plates, drinks and cocktails.
Tree House Extends Operations
After initially announcing plans to close its doors this February, The Tree House in Crosby decided to remain open until further notice due to an overwhelming surge in customer support. The family-run venue on Coronation Road saw a massive spike in bookings following the news of its intended departure, prompting the owners to extend its final chapter. The decision to keep the restaurant running was designed to give loyal patrons more time to enjoy the 'classics menu' while the current owners search for the perfect successor to take over the business. Owner Andy Peters emphasized that the team is in no rush to sell, as they want to ensure the venue is passed into the right hands rather than simply closing the doors prematurely.
