Man United Face Leeds Battle for Shea Charles

Manchester United are set for a transfer battle with Leeds United over Southampton midfielder Shea Charles, as the club's summer midfield rebuild faces growing competition. According to talkSPORT, Leeds have submitted a £20 million bid for the 22-year-old, who was identified by United as a target last month.

Ederson Deal Nearing Completion

United have reportedly agreed a £35 million deal with Atalanta for Brazilian midfielder Ederson, with an additional £3.8 million in potential add-ons. Ederson himself confirmed the move is almost finalised, telling Tuttosport: "It's practically almost all sorted." He added: "I have to make the most of this moment. I am here and it is a wonderful thing, something you must always live to the fullest."

The 13-time Premier League champions are keen to strengthen their midfield under manager Michael Carrick ahead of their return to the Champions League. However, they face stiff competition from Manchester City and Tottenham for other targets, including Elliot Anderson, Sandro Tonali, and Mateus Fernandes.

Shea Charles: A Key Target

Charles, who joined Southampton from Manchester City in 2023, has made 76 appearances for the Saints and spent a loan spell at Sheffield Wednesday. He is valued at around £25 million, and Leeds' initial bid has sparked ongoing discussions. The midfielder can also play in central defence and has one Premier League appearance from his time at Manchester City.

United chief Jason Wilcox previously worked with Charles at Southampton and is said to view him as a player who would 'prosper at the highest level'.

Midfield Overhaul

United's midfield priority follows last summer's forward reinforcements, which included Benjamin Sesko, Matheus Cunha, and Bryan Mbeumo. The club has since shifted focus to the centre of the pitch, with interest in Carlos Baleba and Conor Gallagher. Casemiro is set to join Inter Miami, while Manuel Ugarte is expected to depart after failing to break into the first team. Kobbie Mainoo and Bruno Fernandes remain the club's central midfield options until Ederson arrives.
