A pilot was forced to make a chilling call to air traffic controllers on Sunday after a male passenger allegedly bit a fellow traveller on board an American Airlines flight. The aircraft was approaching Philadelphia when the passenger became unmanageable, reportedly trying to fight everyone around him.
Pilot's Distress Call
Audio from the pilot's call captured him saying: 'I don't know if he's hallucinating or whatever, but he just bit a passenger, and he's trying to fight everybody.' He subsequently requested emergency medical crews and law enforcement before telling a controller, in an audio recording obtained by CBS News, 'what a day, huh?'
The controller wished him a happy Father's Day, to which he responded: 'I'll be sure to tell my daughters about this one.'
Medical Assistance and Landing
American Airlines stated that the passenger was experiencing a medical issue, and a medical professional aboard the aircraft assisted him prior to landing. According to tracking site FlightAware, the flight departed Charlotte, North Carolina, earlier that morning, touching down just before 10am ET.
Recent Similar Incidents
The incident follows a series of other disruptive episodes on flights in recent times. On a Frontier Airlines flight, a man allegedly attempted to open an emergency exit mid-flight and had to be restrained by passengers and crew members. That aircraft, bound for Guatemala City, was flying at 36,000 feet at the time of the incident.
Meanwhile, on a Lufthansa flight, a female passenger launched an attack on another person on board, forcing the plane to make an emergency landing.
