A man remains in a life-threatening condition in hospital following a serious assault in Newcastle city centre, with two teenagers now in police custody.
Incident details
Northumbria Police reported that at approximately 5:10pm yesterday, a man in his 50s was cycling along Claremont Road when he was allegedly approached by two individuals on a moped. One of the suspects pushed the man from his bicycle, causing him to fall onto the road and sustain severe head injuries. Emergency services rushed him to the hospital, where he is currently fighting for his life.
Arrests made
Following a prompt investigation, police arrested two boys, aged 16 and 14, at Walker Park off Scrogg Road in Newcastle. They are being held on suspicion of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm. Both remain in custody as inquiries continue.
A section of Claremont Road remains closed to traffic to facilitate forensic examinations, and part of Walker Park is also cordoned off.

Detectives are urging anyone who was in the Claremont Road area shortly after 5pm to come forward, particularly those with dash cam footage.
