Third suspect arrested in Failsworth stabbing

Greater Manchester Police have arrested a third suspect in connection with a stabbing that left a man in a critical condition. The 17-year-old boy handed himself in at Ashton-under-Lyne Police Station on Saturday evening, joining two other suspects already in custody.

Incident on Hale Lane

Police were called to reports of a disturbance on Hale Lane in Failsworth at around 9.50pm on Friday, June 19, 2026. Officers and paramedics found a man suffering from stab wounds. He was treated at the scene before being rushed to hospital, where his condition remains critical. His family has been informed and is receiving support from specialist officers, according to GMP.

Previous arrests

Later on Friday night, police arrested two men, aged 19 and 46, on suspicion of grievous bodily harm at an address on Firdale Road, Moston. Both remain in custody for questioning. The third suspect, a 17-year-old boy, surrendered to police the following evening. All three are being held as the investigation continues.

Police appeal

Detective Inspector Kelly Paterson, of Oldham CID, said: “We have been working to understand the motive for this attack and our investigation has resulted in the arrest of three people. The investigation will be continuing throughout the weekend and into next week when we will have officers on patrol in both areas and making house-to-house enquiries.”
