Amorim's Eriksen Health Concerns Revealed Before Denmark Star's Collapse
Amorim's Eriksen Health Concerns Before Collapse

Former Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim previously highlighted the need to carefully monitor Christian Eriksen's health during his tenure at Old Trafford. The Danish midfielder spent three years with the Red Devils before joining Wolfsburg last summer.

Eriksen's Collapse in Denmark Friendly

The 34-year-old caused alarm after collapsing on the pitch during the second half of Denmark's international friendly against Ukraine on Sunday. The Danish FA (DBU) released a statement confirming: "Christian Eriksen is conscious and doing well under the circumstances. The match has been called off."

This incident occurs nearly five years after Eriksen suffered a cardiac arrest during Euro 2020, which led to the implantation of an implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD). He returned to professional football in 2022 with a short-term contract at Brentford, where his performances earned him a move to Manchester United.

Amorim's Previous Concerns

Eriksen made 107 appearances for United, winning both the FA Cup and League Cup. However, former boss Amorim admitted to being cautious about Eriksen's health after the midfielder missed a defeat to Tottenham Hotspur in February 2025 due to illness.

"I think Leny (Yoro) and Chris, they were sick. So they will recover," Amorim stated at the time. "Of course, Chris has the heart situation and we have to be really careful with that. It's nothing about the heart! I'm just saying the heart rate has to be controlled because he has a fever."

Eriksen's Career After United

Eriksen left United at the end of his contract in 2025 and subsequently joined German club Wolfsburg. He made 34 appearances at club level this season but was unable to help Denmark qualify for the upcoming World Cup.

Medical Update After Collapse

Following the distressing incident on Sunday, Denmark team doctor Morten Boesen provided an update: "Christian walked off the field on his own. As I see it, the pacemaker is working as it should. He was briefly unconscious but regained consciousness very quickly, and we were quickly in contact with him. He will now undergo further tests at the hospital to determine what caused the incident."

Boesen added: "We are in close contact with him and the doctors at the hospital. But Christian is doing well, and he asked me to send his regards to all the players and tell them that he was okay."

Denmark were leading 2-1 against Ukraine before the match was abandoned. Patrick Dorgu and Joakim Maehle scored for Denmark, while Viktor Tsygankov netted for Ukraine before half-time.

A statement from Manchester United expressed support: "Everybody at Manchester United is encouraged by Denmark's update on Christian Eriksen following today's abandoned friendly against Ukraine. The club is sending strength and love to Christian and the Eriksen family as we await further news."
