David Morrissey has shared a final message after the 'harrowing' conclusion to Channel 4 series Tip Toe aired on viewers' screens. The five-part thriller followed neighbours Leo and Clive, who have lived next door to each other in Manchester for almost 15 years. As the world around them grows more tense, words become weapons, opinions become radicalised, and two neighbours become deadly enemies in a suburban thriller that challenges everything we consider safe.
Russell T Davies on the Importance of Tip Toe
Behind the series was writer Russell T Davies, known for spearheading the revival of Doctor Who in 2005 and creating groundbreaking dramas like Queer as Folk and It's a Sin. Speaking at the Tip Toe red carpet in Manchester, Davies said: 'Tip Toe is very important to me. I wrote it in my heart. It's a tough little story that I hope people engage with.' Reflecting on societal changes since Queer as Folk, he added: 'It changes and it doesn't change at the same time. Some of the same people, some of the same problems that you still have. We're seeing that everyone's out and happy and proud. We have many more rights than we did in the past, but equally that's part of the problem. Some people are taking our visibility and considering us to be too much, and we have to go against that.'
The Harrowing Finale
On Tuesday (June 9), the series concluded with viewers left in tears. After Clive saw images of his eldest son's sex work and his youngest son George enjoying a night out in the gay village, tensions rose. A group of football fans at a party mocked Clive, suggesting he was having an affair with a drag queen, acting as a catalyst for the tragic climax. In an extreme attempt to reassert his masculinity, Clive and his group attacked Leo before fatally hanging him from a lamppost outside his home. While the rest fled, Clive stood in shock at what they had done.
David Morrissey's Final Message
Taking to Instagram after the finale, David Morrissey wrote: 'So that is Tip Toe done. Although still available on @channel4 to stream. The show is finished but the issues don't go away. Find out what unites us rather than what divides us. Look for empathy and kindness and understanding. A harrowing show to watch. But we had some laughs along the way. Adore @alancummingreally and @russelltdavies63 @philcollinson @peterhoardirector and all @quaystreetproductions And all the cast and crew!'
Alan Cumming Bids Farewell
Alan Cumming also bid farewell to the series, adding: 'Thank you all so much for the kind words and love about Tip Toe. I feel it has done its work and that is all anyone could hope for. I kind of feel I need to let you know that in spite of the content - and it was so tough and taxing a thing to do - we also had fun. It was actually a joyous shoot.'
