Historic Trafford Pub Named Finalist at Great British Pub Awards 2026
Historic Trafford Pub Finalist at Great British Pub Awards

The Garricks Head, a historic pub in Flixton, Trafford, has been shortlisted for a top national award. The pub, located on Moorside Road, is one of six finalists in the Best Punch Pubs & Co Pub category at the Great British Pub Awards 2026.

A Historic Venue with Modern Upgrades

Built in 1830, the Tudor-style pub takes its name from actor David Garrick, a renowned 18th-century West End star. After a six-figure renovation last year, the pub now features new furnishings, a revamped beer garden, and a refreshed sports zone with big-screen TVs and new dart boards.

The menu has also been upgraded, offering dishes such as crispy chicken schnitzel, classic cottage pie, vegetable lasagne, chicken gyros, and grilled steaks. A Sunday roast menu includes roast beef, chicken, pork, or mushroom Bourguignon pie, served with sea salt roast potatoes and seasonal vegetables.

Recognition and Awards

Earlier this year, The Garricks Head won Best Sports and Entertainment Pub of the Year at the Punch Publican of the Year Awards. Now, it is a finalist for Best Punch Pubs & Co Pub at the Great British Pub Awards, the only Manchester pub in its category.

Jason Flexen, Operations Director at Punch Pubs & Co, said: “Dawn and the team at The Garricks Head were an obvious nomination... This pub is truly at the heart of its community.” He added that the team “go above and beyond” to run an excellent pub that brings together guests and locals.

Community and TV Appearances

The pub is a hub for community activities, hosting regular quizzes, live music, and sports screenings. It also appeared in Mackenzie Crook's BBC series Small Prophets and has been featured in several adverts. The pub raises thousands of pounds for charities each year and maintains excellent guest reviews.

On social media, the pub team expressed their pride: “Being recognised on a national stage is beyond anything we imagined. Just reaching the final is a dream come true.”

The winners will be announced at the First Direct Bank Arena in Leeds in September. Other finalists include The Piper in Chester, Salmon Leap in Totton, Rattlebone Inn in Malmesbury, The Travellers Inn in Barnsley, and The Anglesey Arms in Chichester. Stockport's Puss in Boots is also a finalist for Best Pub for Families.
