The first ceremony will take place at the Estadio Banorte in Mexico City on Thursday, June 11, ahead of Mexico's Group A match against South Africa. Headlining the event are global superstars Shakira and Burna Boy, who will perform the official tournament song 'Dai Dai' live for the first time.
Opening Ceremony in Mexico
FIFA has emphasized that the ceremony will celebrate Latin American culture, incorporating traditional 'papel picado' artistry. The line-up includes Mexican band Mana, Alejandro Fernandez, Colombian J Balvin, Belinda, Danny Ocean, Lila Downs, Los Ángeles Azules, and Tyla. The show is expected to highlight the region's rich musical heritage.
Canada's Opening Ceremony
The following day, Friday, June 12, Canada will host its opening ceremony at BMO Field in Toronto before their match against Bosnia and Herzegovina. Jessie Reyez and Palestinian singer Elyanna are set to perform, with Michael Buble leading the pre-match entertainment. The line-up also features Nora Fatehi, Alanis Morissette, Alessia Cara, William Prince, DJ Sanjoy, and Vegedream. FIFA President Gianni Infantino described the event as a 'powerful reflection of Canada's identity.'
United States Opening Ceremony
Later that same day, the United States will stage its ceremony at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California, prior to their match against Paraguay. Katy Perry, Future, and Tyla will perform, alongside K-pop group Blackpink, Brazilian singer Anitta, and Nigerian artist Rema. Infantino noted that the line-up 'reflects the cultural diversity of the United States and the vibrancy of its many diasporas.'
Start Times for Opening Ceremonies
The first ceremony in Mexico City begins at 6:30 PM BST (1:30 PM local time). Canada's ceremony on June 12 also starts at 6:30 PM BST (1:30 PM local time in Toronto). The US ceremony in Los Angeles begins at 3:30 AM BST (7:30 PM local time on June 12).
Opening Match and Closing Ceremony
The tournament officially kicks off with Mexico versus South Africa at 8 PM BST on June 11, 2026, at Estadio Banorte. A closing ceremony has not yet been confirmed but is traditionally expected.
