The BBC has faced a wave of complaints from viewers over what they describe as 'excessive' coverage of the new series Celebrity Traitors. During Saturday's edition of Newswatch, presenter Samira Ahmed read out feedback from disgruntled audience members who criticised the broadcaster for prioritising the show over more serious news.
Viewer Ian Watson wrote to the programme, expressing his dismay at finding ten minutes of Celebrity Traitors on BBC Verify Live. 'This is not news! Let alone something that needs verifying,' he said. 'Please get a group and employ someone who knows the difference between news and self-promotion.'
Another viewer, Janet Miles, complained that the show was featured on every news bulletin she watched and even delayed the start of the main 10pm news. 'With what is going on with the world at the moment, why on earth is this banal nonsense getting such overblown coverage?' she asked.
The BBC has defended its coverage, noting that the celebrity version of the popular reality show features a star-studded lineup including Alan Carr, Jonathan Ross, and Charlotte Church. The first episode aired on Wednesday, October 8, and the series continues on BBC One at 9pm on Wednesdays.
