Anthony Head, best known for his role as Rupert Giles in Buffy the Vampire Slayer, has revealed the cause of death of his long-term partner Sarah Fisher, who died on New Year's Day at the age of 61. The animal rights activist and canine behaviour expert passed away after a short illness, according to a statement from her family.
Head, 71, and Fisher's daughters, actresses Emily and Daisy, shared the news of their mother's death in a heartfelt tribute, describing her as 'extraordinary, kind and talented'. They said her death came 'with very little warning' and that their 'grief knows no bounds'.
The couple had been together for 37 years but never married. In a 2018 interview, Head revealed that Fisher would playfully refuse his marriage proposals, telling him to 'f*** off'. Despite this, Head considered himself 'married' and said he could not imagine life without her.
Fisher was a dedicated animal welfare advocate who worked with Battersea Cats and Dogs Home, where she was an ambassador and fostered dogs. The charity paid tribute, saying she 'gave so much' and made 'a real difference in animal welfare'.
Head credited Fisher with encouraging him to pursue his acting career, which led to iconic roles in Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Little Britain, and Merlin. The couple's daughters, Emily and Daisy, have also found success as actresses.
