Ashley James has shared the three-word advice she would give to her younger self: "Know your worth." The ITV broadcaster, known for her roles on Made In Chelsea and Celebrity Big Brother, is on a mission to encourage women to build confidence. She recently partnered with lingerie brand Pour Moi for a campaign aimed at empowering women to stand up for themselves.
From Reality Star to Broadcaster
James, now in her late 30s, reflected on her journey from reality television to becoming a DJ, broadcaster, and Sunday Times bestselling author. She admitted that for over 20 years, she obsessed over male approval, focusing on fit, comfort, and support in her appearance. "I thought male approval was the most important thing," she said. Her career shift began when she realized the financial potential of DJing. "I heard the music at clubs and thought, 'That song would go well with that.' But I learned to DJ because I found out how much people were paid to do it. I was struggling financially, so I did a DJ course. I couldn't afford debts, so I went to my local pub and asked, 'If I DJ for you, will you give me free drinks?' On the first night, I got booked, and it went from there."
Advice to Younger Self
When asked what advice she would give to her younger self, James didn't hesitate: "Know your worth." She elaborated: "Don't worry so much about whether people like you; worry about if you like you and if you like them. Whether it's friendship or dating, we're made to think male approval is the most important thing. I spent too much time worrying about being likeable and pleasant without recognizing red flags. There's so much more than appearance."
Pour Moi Campaign
As a brand ambassador for Pour Moi, James modeled a yellow lace set for a photoshoot, exuding confidence. She also discovered the joy of wearing a swimsuit instead of a bikini. Nicola Cosens, chief marketing officer at Pour Moi, said: "Be unapologetically you. This campaign supports anyone in realizing that the real version of themselves is brilliant. Ashley has spent years talking openly about body confidence, motherhood, and feeling good in your own skin. She stands up for what she believes, owning the narrative."
