BBC Radio 1 Star Mollie King Rushed to A&E After Collapse

BBC Radio 1 presenter Mollie King was rushed to hospital after collapsing in her bathroom during a terrifying late-night incident. The 38-year-old broadcaster, who underwent surgery last summer, revealed that she had been absent from her show due to the shocking ordeal.

The former Saturdays singer explained that she hit her face on the floor and praised her husband, former England cricket star Stuart Broad, for finding her and taking her to the emergency room.

In a statement on Instagram on Monday, King said: 'After coming home late from work, I suddenly collapsed unconscious on the bathroom floor at 4am, hitting my head and face as I fell. It was a huge shock and I ended up being rushed to A&E. I keep thinking how grateful I am that I wasn’t on my own and had Stuart to bring me round after I fell.'

The broadcaster added: 'A huge thank you to Amy and Hannah at St George’s Hospital who were absolutely incredible, stitching me up so well, and even managed to see past the Looney Tunes pyjama top I arrived in (must buy new pyjamas!).'

King, who co-hosts her radio show with close friend Matt Edmondson, continued: 'It’s been a real wake-up call that I need to make some time to get my strength back, not just for my own health, but so I can be the best version of myself for my family too.'

Sharing a photo with her daughter Liliana, aged one, watching Broad on a sports screen, she wrote: 'Yesterday was my first day doing anything social. After what has felt like a very long two weeks, it was amazing to get out and spend time with my girls. We even had the surprise of spotting Daddy on a big screen, which made us all smile.' She concluded: 'Thank you so much to everyone who has checked in on me, and for all the lovely birthday messages too. Your kindness has meant so much. I can’t wait to be back on the radio with Matt today.'

In response to the post, Edmondson said: 'We’ve missed you.' Her former Saturdays bandmates also shared their support, with Rochelle Humes commenting, 'Sending you heart emojis,' while Una Healy wrote: 'Love you, get well soon and rest up.' Melvin Odoom shared, 'Sending love see you later,' and Dean McCullough posted: 'Sending you all the love my babes. We’ve missed you.'

King currently co-hosts Matt and Mollie alongside Edmondson on Radio 1 from 1pm to 3.30pm, Monday to Thursday. She has faced a series of health issues over the past year and previously pulled out of a TV appearance in March after medics advised her to rest. She was scheduled to appear on Sunday Brunch with Edmondson to promote their new podcast, Novel Idea, but revealed she had hurt her neck and could not attend.

Last August, King disclosed that she had undergone surgery for an undisclosed issue, which required her to take several weeks off from Radio 1. She said at the time: 'I had to take some time off in July for an operation but everything went well and I’m doing much better now.' King and her partner Broad have two children together: daughters Annabella, aged three, and Liliana, aged one.
