Ben & Jerry's 'secret compartment' ice cream hack debunked as hoax
Ben & Jerry's 'secret compartment' ice cream hoax exposed

A viral TikTok video showing a hidden compartment at the bottom of Ben & Jerry's ice cream tubs has been revealed as a hoax. The clip, posted by mum Lena Boston, claimed that a secret stash of fudge brownies lies beneath the ice cream, urging viewers to check their tubs before throwing them away.

The viral video

In the video, Boston purchases a tub of Ben & Jerry's Chocolate Fudge Brownie from Target and scoops out the ice cream to reveal what appears to be a hidden layer of treats. The clip has amassed over 2.3 million views on TikTok, sparking widespread debate.

Some viewers were amazed, with one commenting: "What. Eh. Why are they hiding it? The amount of uneaten, unclaimed fudge brownies I never knew I had." Others were skeptical, noting that the cut looked suspicious. One user wrote: "If you work on making the cut look more real then maybe it would actually fool someone."

The debunking

Fellow TikTok user @keilys19 decided to test the claim. She scooped through an entire tub of the same flavor but found nothing at the bottom. In her video, she says: "So I completely ripped it open because this is freaking fake." She added: "Like, where could it possibly be? But now I have an excuse to eat ice cream so it's a win for me."

Reactions

The hoax drew comparisons to other viral food myths, such as the supposed spoon hidden in Nutella lids. One user commented: "This is like when everyone said there was a spoon in the Nutella lid." Another exclaimed: "I beg your finest pardon?!"

Despite the disappointment, many found humor in the situation. The debunking video has also gained significant traction, with viewers appreciating the lighthearted take on the hoax.
