Take That will be returning to Cardiff's Principality Stadium this week with their iconic Circus Live tour. The band revisits the Welsh capital on Tuesday, June 16, bringing back the extravagant performance that captivated audiences in 2009. Fans can find all essential information about road closures, parking, and travel arrangements below.
Road Closures
From 7am, Scott Road and Park Street will close to prepare Gate 5 and protect queuing fans. A full city centre road closure will take effect from 3pm until midnight, affecting the following roads:
- Kingsway from North Road to Duke Street
- Cowbridge Road East from Cathedral Road to Westgate Street
- Tudor Street from Clare Road to Wood Street (resident and trader access via Fitzhammon Embankment)
- Plantagenet Street and Beauchamp Street from Despenser Place to Tudor Street (resident and trader access permitted)
The following roads will be closed entirely: Duke Street, Castle Street, High Street, St Mary Street, Caroline Street, Wood Street, Central Square, Westgate Street, Quay Street, Guildhall Place, Golate, Park Street, Havelock Street, and Scott Road. Station Terrace and Guildford Street from Newport Road to Churchill Way will be bus-only during closures. Penarth Road will close 30 minutes before the concert ends and for up to an hour after. Station Terrace will also close briefly to allow safe operation of Queen Street Station for 1 hour 30 minutes after the event.
Access to part of the Civic Centre will be controlled throughout the day, affecting King Edward VII Avenue, Museum Avenue, City Hall Road, College Road, and Gorsedd Gardens Road.
Trains
Great Western Railway (GWR) will run additional services from Cardiff Central to Swansea, Newport, Bristol, and Swindon. A queuing system will be in place outside the station. Check connecting services at www.gwr.com/check. Transport for Wales (TfW) will add capacity on routes to and from Cardiff; passengers should plan ahead. Queuing starts at 9.45pm at both Cardiff Central and Cardiff Queen Street stations. Pre- and post-event revenue checks will occur; purchase tickets before queuing. Pay-as-you-go is available on TfW and Cross-Country services (not GWR).
Park & Ride
For Take That on June 16, the park & ride is at Cardiff City Stadium, Leckwith (CF11 8AZ), accessible from junction 33 of the M4 via the A4232. Drop-off at Fitzhammon Embankment. Car park opens at 10am, first bus at 10.30am, last bus from Fitzhammon Embankment at midnight. Cost: £15 per car.
Civic Centre Event Day Parking
Exit junction 32 of the M4, head south on the A470, and follow signs to the civic centre. Cost: £20 for cars, £30 for coaches (card payments accepted). Car park open 8am to midnight.
Sophia Gardens Parking
Approximately 0.5 mile walk to Principality Stadium (Gate 2). Exit junction 32 of the M4. Cost: £20 for cars, £30 for coaches (card payments). Open 8am to midnight. Staffed until 7pm; vehicles left at owner's risk. Fines for vehicles left after closing.
Buses
Bus services will be diverted due to road closures. Check operator websites: Stagecoach (stagecoachbus.com), Cardiff Bus (cardiffbus.com/principality-stadium), NAT (natgroup.co.uk). National Express coaches will use Sophia Gardens as usual.
Cycling and Walking
Cycleways within the closure area remain open. Road closures do not apply to bicycles. Local residents are encouraged to cycle or walk; 52% of car trips in Cardiff are under 5km. Cycling is quicker during congestion.
Shopping Parking
City centre car parks include North Road, St David's Shopping Centre, John Lewis, Capitol Shopping Centre, and NCP (Adam Street, Dumfries Place, Greyfriars Road).
Disabled Parking
Disabled drivers are advised to use Sophia Gardens. Private car parks also offer disabled parking; check individual websites.
Taxis
