Soccer Aid Star Damson Idris: From Football Dreams to Hollywood Stardom

Damson Idris made a stunning debut at Soccer Aid, scoring within the first 30 minutes for England XI in their 3-2 victory over World XI at the London Stadium on May 30. The 20th anniversary edition saw the British actor play alongside football legends Wayne Rooney and Jermain Defoe, as well as stars Tom Hiddleston and Owen Cooper.

Idris, best known for his role in the FX series Snowfall, grew up in Peckham, South London, and originally aspired to be a professional footballer. He played the sport until the age of 18, but a glimpse of Lionel Messi in action changed his mind. 'I wanted to be a footballer. I played up until the age of 18, and then I remember seeing Lionel Messi play. He was around 23 years old. And I was like, 'I'm never going to be as good as this guy,'' he told the Associated Press.

Beyond football, Idris has built an impressive acting career, with roles in Black Mirror, the Netflix film Outside the Wire, and the Brad Pitt movie F1, which earned a Best Picture Oscar nomination. Upcoming projects include Squadron 42, Children of Blood and Bone, The Lords' Day, and Miles & Juliette.

On the personal front, Idris is reportedly dating Lori Henry, an American model and entrepreneur, who is the daughter of Marjorie Harvey and the adoptive daughter of comedian Steve Harvey. The couple first dated in 2022, split in 2023 to focus on their careers, and rekindled their romance in 2025, often seen together at events.
