David Beckham Honored with Hollywood Walk of Fame Star as Victoria Delivers Heartfelt Speech
David Beckham Receives Hollywood Walk of Fame Star

Sir David Beckham received his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in a glamorous ceremony at the iconic tourist spot in Los Angeles on Friday afternoon. The football legend, 51, became the 2,849th person to be honored with a spot on Hollywood Boulevard, with the ceremony unfolding in front of Ovation Hollywood.

He was joined by wife Victoria, whom he married in 1999 after her rise to fame as a member of the Spice Girls, and their children Harper, 14, Cruz, 21, and Romeo, 23. Notably absent was eldest son Brooklyn, 27, who has become publicly estranged from his parents since marrying heiress Nicola Peltz.

Hollywood star Tom Cruise, a close friend of David for nearly 20 years, also attended. Taking the stage to pay tribute, Victoria said: 'Growing up in England, the Hollywood Walk of Fame was one of those iconic things you only see in films, a way of immortalizing people who have succeeded and left their mark. So naturally, I assumed I was coming here today to receive my star for my part in that iconic cult classic Spice World: The Movie.'

'But as it turns out, earning a star takes a little more than surviving the late nineties box office. It takes vision, determination, and extraordinary hard work. So to see David's name become part of that story today is incredibly special. Like so many before him, David came to America with a dream to share his passion for the beautiful game and help make soccer one of this country's great sports.'

'He believed that if he worked hard, anything was possible. Some might have said it was impossible, but David has never been very good at listening when told something can't be done. He has achieved something extraordinary. And now, with the World Cup upon us, soccer is entering one of the most exciting chapters in its history, making this incredible honour feel all the more timely.'

'Behind all his titles is a man defined by his character, his drive, his determination, and his ambition. But I'd like to acknowledge his kindness and commitment to those he loves. He gives it everything without losing sight of what matters most. David, I am so proud of all you have achieved, but even more proud of the husband and father you have always been. Congratulations. We love you so much.'

David then took the stage, saying: 'I'd like to thank the media, all the fans who have turned up today, and all the police officers who have helped make this day so special. Thank you to Tom and my wife for those kind words. I don't know how to compete with them, but I'm going to do my much.'

'I must thank the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce and the Walk of Fame selection committee. This is all rather surreal. I've experienced some amazing moments in my career, but this is truly incredible. I've always been a dreamer, but I could never imagine that an honour like this would come to a working-class English soccer player like me.'

'I grew up a long way from Hollywood, but as a young boy, I loved soccer more than anything. I always loved America and its TV shows. Knight Rider and A-Team were my personal favourites, but you could also find me watching The Golden Girls with my mum or racing to see the latest blockbuster with my friends.'

'Like all boys my age, I was obsessed with action heroes. To stand here with my friend Tom Cruise, the greatest movie star of all time, is mind-blowing. And the fact that mine and Victoria's first movie date was Jerry Maguire is a mad full-circle moment. Tom, you welcomed me and Victoria to LA nearly 20 years ago, and I'm so honoured that you are here today.'

Despite the achievement, David explained that such a feat was never on his radar when he was younger, as he only focused on his love for football. Just prior to the event, he told Variety: 'Absolutely not. All I wanted to be was a successful soccer player for Manchester United and England. That's all I cared about. I didn't care about the fame, the wealth, all the admiration you get. All I cared about was being a soccer player. So now, having a star, becoming a 'sir,' all these things that have come with my career, I feel very lucky.'

Walk of Fame producer Ana Martinez said: 'The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce is proud to welcome David Beckham to the Hollywood Walk of Fame. David Beckham's recognition with a star in the Sports Entertainment category comes at a fitting moment as the United States prepares to host the FIFA World Cup. Beckham's role in elevating soccer's profile in America and his lasting influence on sports, entertainment, and global culture make this honour especially meaningful.'

When the news was first announced, fans reacted with excitement, with one writing on X: 'Of course he is, he's a legend!' Another said: 'Sir David Beckham, fittingly honoured before the World Cup!' However, some questioned why a footballer was being celebrated alongside Hollywood legends. A social media user wrote: 'Sorry but David Beckham is not a movie star! Stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame are for the likes of legends Paul Newman. What's next? Love Island people getting them?' Another joked: 'David Beckham gets a Hollywood Star. To be fair I've loved all the films he's done!'

The recognition comes ahead of the 2026 FIFA Men's World Cup, which begins this month in the US, Mexico, and Canada. Over the years, the Walk of Fame has honored legends like Marilyn Monroe, Judy Garland, and Elizabeth Taylor, as well as recent stars like Daniel Radcliffe, Jennifer Aniston, Macaulay Culkin, and Miley Cyrus.

Sir David's playing career spanned 20 years, making him the first English player to win league titles in four countries: England, Spain, the United States, and France. In 2018, he became co-owner of MLS club Inter Miami, which won its first MLS Cup last year. He has also supported charity causes, serving as a UNICEF goodwill ambassador since 2005. Last year, he received a knighthood for services to sport and charity.
