David Beckham may already have his knighthood, but his next accolade is equally momentous. The former footballer, 50, will receive the 2,849th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Friday in what insiders describe as an ‘emotional’ ceremony. He will be joined by his wife, Lady Victoria Beckham, and actor Tom Cruise, who will unveil the star while reflecting on Beckham’s impact on sports, entertainment, and global culture.
However, despite living just 20 minutes away, Sir David’s eldest son, Brooklyn Beckham, will not attend. Brooklyn resides in Los Angeles with his wife, Nicola Peltz, in a $16 million villa in Trousdale Estates, a celebrity enclave above Beverly Hills. While Victoria and David will miss their son at the event, the recognition feels ‘joyous’ and marks a milestone in Beckham’s international influence.
A source told Metro: ‘David can’t wait for his star unveiling ceremony. He’ll have Victoria by his side, and her speech is incredibly moving. His close friend Tom Cruise will also honour his career, which will be a huge moment for him. Brooklyn lives less than 20 minutes away from where the ceremony will be, but won’t be attending. It wouldn’t be the right time or place for a family reunion after everything that’s happened between them.’
A Public Family Rift
In January, Brooklyn publicly addressed rumours of a long-standing feud with his parents. Speculation had circulated since his 2022 wedding to Nicola, with the couple initially presenting a united front with the Beckhams but later distancing themselves. They were notably absent from David’s 50th birthday and knighthood celebrations, and none of the Beckhams were invited to Brooklyn and Nicola’s vow renewal last summer.
Brooklyn issued a bombshell statement on social media, accusing his parents of being ‘controlling’ and declaring he was ‘standing up for himself.’ He detailed grievances including alleged pressure to sign away his name rights before his wedding, his mother’s last-minute cancellation of Nicola’s wedding dress, and feeling humiliated during his first dance. He stated: ‘I do not want to reconcile with my family. I’m not being controlled, I’m standing up for myself for the first time in my life.’
Victoria’s Response
Victoria Beckham broke her silence on the dispute in an April interview with the Wall Street Journal. She said: ‘I think that we’ve always – we love our children so much. We’ve always tried to be the best parents that we can be. And you know, we’ve been in the public eye for more than 30 years right now, and all we’ve ever tried to do is protect our children and love our children. And you know, that’s all I really want to say about it.’
Despite the rift, the Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony remains a celebratory occasion for David Beckham, highlighting his enduring legacy across sports and entertainment.
