EastEnders aired worrying scenes as George Knight threatened to kill again, just days after his actions led to the death of his father, Eddie. The boxer, played by Colin Salmon, denied Eddie water when he began to choke and watched him die. Now, he has threatened the life of Mark Fowler Jr.
George's Struggle with Grief and Anger
Throughout Monday's episode, George grappled with his anger at Eddie for being racist and at his girlfriend Nicola Mitchell for manipulating him into taking Eddie in so she could access the elderly man's money. At the end of the episode, he went to the gym to blow off steam.
While there, he encountered Mark. Noticing George's distress, Mark, who struggles with his own father Grant Mitchell, joked that he wasn't "the only one with daddy issues." George did not take kindly to the jibe and challenged Mark to a sparring match. Mark was hesitant, knowing George was a former professional boxer, but George persisted until Mark agreed. George promised to pull his punches but quickly broke that promise once they were in the ring.
The Violent Confrontation
George attacked Mark, backing him into a corner. Mark raised his arms to protect his face, but George continued punching him, saying, "If you don't start fighting back, I'll kill you." Mark then landed a blow to George's face, knocking him unconscious. Mark called out to George, who lay motionless on the floor.
Fans were terrified by the scenes, as George suffers from chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), a progressive brain disease linked to repeated head injuries. He had been warned that one more punch could kill him. One fan said, "I wonder if they will return to George's probable CTE storyline now." Another added, "George shouldn't be in the ring; he was told one more hit could kill him!"
However, others noted that since George appeared in the flashforward scene, he must be okay. Mark also appears in the flashforward, so he is unlikely to be harmed by George. Similarly, Ian Beale, currently facing a prison sentence for accidentally running over Jordan Fox, was a free man in the flashforward, suggesting he will either go free or serve only a short jail term.
Unanswered Questions Remain
Though halfway to the flashforward events, which take place on January 1, 2027, many questions remain unanswered. For example, George and Nicola were seen in the Queen Vic, but Nicola had a bandage around her leg, and the cause of her injury is unknown. Additionally, Nicola hates Chelsea Fox in the flashforward, but the reason is unclear.
