Emilia Fox has candidly revealed that she has dedicated the past year to personal recovery and self-care following her separation from television producer Jonathan Stadlen at the beginning of 2025. The acclaimed actress, best known for her role as Dr. Nikki Alexander in the enduring BBC series Silent Witness, opened up about this transformative period in a recent interview and photoshoot for Woman & Home magazine.
A Year of Healing and Self-Discovery
Now 51, Fox expressed that she is currently embracing a mindset filled with hope and optimism for the future. She reflected on the emotional journey of coming to terms with the end of a significant relationship, stating that with age comes a greater ability to accept such life changes as natural and to understand the importance of nurturing oneself through difficult times.
"You might feel emotional about it at one point," Fox shared, "but luckily with age, you can accept it as part of life, and know how to recover and look after yourself." She emphasised that while the conclusion of any relationship is invariably sad, she has actively engaged in practices that foster positivity and forward-looking resilience.
Looking Forward with Optimism
Although Fox confirmed there are no new romantic interests at present, she is eagerly anticipating future possibilities and fresh beginnings. She elaborated on her philosophical approach to life's challenges in her conversation with the Daily Mail's Weekend Magazine, choosing to view past experiences as formative rather than damaging.
"You can see life’s dents as harmful, or choose to think they make us who we are," she explained. "So my attitude is that I take all the good things that happened – I have nothing but lovely things to say about Jonathan, and I feel lucky to have been on that path with him – and accept it’s time to look to a different future."
Return to Silent Witness and a New Chapter
Fox, who shares a 15-year-old daughter, Rose, with former partner Jeremy Gilley, has also channelled her energy into her professional work, which she credits with aiding her healing process. She is set to reprise her iconic role in the new series of Silent Witness, titled Silent Witness: Awakening, scheduled for release on February 2nd.
The upcoming series promises significant developments, as Dr. Nikki Alexander travels to Mexico to investigate the violent death of a friend in a carjacking. In a major shift for the programme, the narrative will also see Nikki establishing a new forensic centre in Birmingham, marking the first time the world's longest-running crime drama, now in its twentieth year, has ventured to this location.
An Ensemble Cast and New Challenges
Fox will be joined by returning colleagues Jack, portrayed by David Caves, Harriet, played by Maggie Steed, and Kit, brought to life by Fran Mills, as they tackle some of their most complex cases to date. The new series boasts an impressive roster of guest stars, including:
- Lydia Wilson from Nine Bodies in a Mexican Morgue
- Chris Reilly from Slow Horses
- Ben Batt from Riot Women
- Vinette Robinson from Boiling Point
- Selin Hizli from Am I Being Unreasonable?
- Gerard Kearns from Waiting For The Out
The cast is further strengthened by Adam Rayner, Phaldut Sharma, Dino Fetscher, Cat Simmons, Chris Coghill, and Mollie Winnard, ensuring a compelling and dynamic new chapter for the beloved series.
Through both her personal reflections and professional endeavours, Emilia Fox exemplifies a journey of resilience, demonstrating how embracing change and focusing on self-care can pave the way for a hopeful and optimistic new beginning.
