A furious racism row erupted on GB News today as co-stars clashed over the aftermath of a stabbing in Belfast. The broadcast turned into a shouting match while discussing the incident and the subsequent disorder in the city.
Heated Exchange on GB News
During the program, GB News Senior Political Commentator Nigel Nelson and guest Martin Daubney debated the response to the attack on Stephen Ogilvie, who lost an eye and suffered grievous injuries in a knife attack on Monday evening. The suspect, Hadi Alodid, a 30-year-old Sudanese national, has been charged with attempted murder and appeared in court this morning.
Nelson expressed frustration at the government's response, stating: "It's pathetic - Belfast happened, and it was so predictable. Now, if you spend time reporting from Ireland or Northern Ireland as we do here on GB News, we talk to real people who feel abandoned and betrayed by the government. Belfast was inevitable."
He added: "Why is Westminster so surprised, and why is the reaction always to jail people rather than take some responsibility for a disaster that is of their own making?"
Daubney's Response
Daubney countered: "Hang on a second. They are in jail for rioting, for burning people's houses down, for risking people's lives. That is what they are being jailed for." When Nelson tried to interject, Daubney insisted: "Let's just stick to this, shall we?"
He continued: "What we saw last night was an outpouring of racism and racist attacks." Nelson cut in: "It's always racism, isn't it?" Daubney fumed: "Yes, it is," before Nelson added: "It's always the far-right, it's just a foney cover story."
Daubney stressed that many people "were in danger for the simple reason of last night being the colour of their skin." He added: "Now, you don't like politicians very much - fair dos," before Nelson erupted and continued to yell over the guest.
Victim's Family Appeal for Calm
The victim's family released a statement today, saying: "We are completely devastated by the horrific attack on our loved one on Kinnaird Avenue. This has been a massive shock to our whole family, and right now, our only priority is being at his bedside and helping him recover."
They added: "We want to say a profound thank you to the local people who bravely stepped in during the attack. Your quick actions absolutely saved his life, and we will never forget what you did for him in that moment. We also want to thank the emergency services and the doctors and nurses looking after him."
