Former Love Island champion Jack Fincham delivered a raw and emotional account of his struggles with addiction during a candid appearance on ITV's Good Morning Britain. The 33-year-old reality star, who won the popular dating show alongside ex-girlfriend Dani Dyer in 2018, revealed he is voluntarily returning to rehabilitation treatment to prevent himself from "destroying" his life entirely.
A Sobering Wake-Up Call
Speaking to hosts Susanna Reid and Ed Balls, Fincham described how a recent relapse had brought him perilously close to death. "They said because of boxing, I do my boxing camps, before I fight, your body has time to repair," he recalled of medical professionals' warnings. "Training from a young age, boxing from 13, a strong heart - without that, you probably would have ended up dead in your bed at this point."
The television personality admitted this wasn't a new battle, with addiction issues dating back to his late teens. "This is not a new thing," he emphasised. "This has been going on since I was 18/19. I'm 33 now, this is a long, long time."
Turning Point and Treatment
Fincham's decision to seek help follows what he described as a "selfish" relapse that began several weeks before Christmas. After publicly admitting he couldn't afford private rehabilitation and had just £20 to his name, care provider Steps Together has offered him a place at their Rainford Hall facility in Merseyside.
The two-month treatment programme, valued at £32,000, will include intensive therapy six days per week alongside physical exercise sessions with a boxing coach. "I told how I couldn't afford rehab, and this company came forward," Fincham acknowledged. "I know I'm lucky. I can't stuff this up."
Management's Statement
Shortly after his television appearance, Fincham's management team took to his Instagram account to share an official statement with his followers. "After this morning's appearance on GMB, Jack is now heading into a rehabilitation facility to begin treatment for addiction," the post confirmed.
"This has been an incredibly difficult step for him to take - but one he knows is necessary for his health, his future, and those who care about him," the statement continued. "It's taken courage to be open about his struggles, and we're proud of the strength he's shown in facing them head-on."
Reflecting on Missed Opportunities
During his emotional interview, Fincham reflected on the personal cost of his addiction. "This time around, I often sit there and think about the thousands of opportunities that I've ruined," he confessed. "This time around, I want to help myself, I want to live my life in abundance and more importantly, a happy, healthy life and get back thousands of opportunities and new opportunities that are going to come my way being sober."
He described the internal conflict familiar to many battling addiction: "It's like having two people on your shoulder. One would go: 'You can get this under control this time'."
Recent Struggles and Public Scrutiny
Fincham's relapse became public knowledge after he was photographed sharing a passionate kiss with Married At First Sight star Leisha Lightbody at a Christmas light festival in November. The incident occurred while he was heavily intoxicated, with the reality star admitting he didn't even remember the encounter.
"Since then, I have done drugs, I have done laughing gas, I have been so drunk that I've kissed a woman over Christmas and don't even remember doing it," he revealed. "I am embarrassed, mortified... of course I am, I feel like an idiot."
Commitment to Recovery
Despite the challenges ahead, Fincham expressed determination to succeed in his recovery journey. "I am going to work hard and not let anybody down," he vowed during his television appearance.
His management's statement echoed this commitment while asking for public support: "The road ahead won't be easy, but with the right help and the support of you - his community - he's hopeful and committed to making real change. Please send your love, positivity, and encouragement his way. It means more than you know."
The former Love Island winner has also launched a YouTube channel to document his recovery journey, promising "messy, uncut, raw" content that shows "what it's like to start from rock bottom and get to where you wanna be."
