Kirsty Gallacher has opened up about her new romance with former rugby player Darren Clayton, 38, describing the moment she fell for him as instant chemistry. The Smooth Radio host, 48, met Darren through her close friends Gabby Logan and her husband Kenny during a charity walk and bike ride for motor neurone disease, a cause close to her heart. The event was organised by Darren, who is also a single parent, and saw celebrities and supporters travel from Edinburgh to Paris.
Recalling their first meeting, Kirsty said: 'You know when you just meet someone and they’re obviously good-looking, and you’re attracted to them? That was it.' She added that they 'just got on really well' and have 'really enjoyed' their year together. The couple are now planning to take on a triathlon together for charity, with Kirsty joking that it is 'Darren’s fault – and I say that in a good way.'
Kirsty, who has two sons Oscar, 17, and Jude, 14, from her previous marriage, described her current life as a 'new chapter'. She said: 'I feel like I’ve had three different lives: one in my twenties – the early time in my career, without kids, then my thirties was all career and kids, and then this new life, navigating my forties in a different place, with a slightly different career path and older kids.'
As well as her radio work, Kirsty has launched a new podcast, Sporting Routes, with National Rail, where she interviews sporting legends about Britain’s best sport locations. She also reflected on her career highlights, including presenting on Sky Sports News and Ant & Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway, calling the duo 'best in the business'.
