Love Island Producers Target Influencer Charleen Murphy for 2026 Series
As the evenings grow lighter and longer, signalling the approach of summer, anticipation is building for the return of ITV2's hit reality show, Love Island. With the 2026 series expected to launch in June, producers are actively scouting potential contestants to populate the iconic Mallorcan villa.
Following the explosive start to the year with Love Island: All Stars, which saw winners Samie Elishi and Ciaran Davies split shortly after their victory, fans are eagerly awaiting another dose of drama and romance. While most details remain tightly under wraps, it is anticipated that the show will air six nights a week over an eight-week run, with beloved host Maya Jama set to return.
Charleen Murphy Emerges as a Frontrunner
Rumours are beginning to circulate, and one name prominently mentioned is Dublin-based influencer Charleen Murphy. With over 360,000 followers on TikTok, Murphy has garnered significant social media attention. Her recent split from long-term boyfriend, Irish footballer Dano Mandroiu, earlier this year has left her single and potentially available for the villa.
Murphy's connection to the show is strengthened by her close friendship with former Love Island contestant Lucinda Strafford. This association has reportedly caught the eye of ITV bosses, who are keen to cast individuals with existing ties to the Love Island universe.
Inside Sources Reveal Lucinda's Recommendation
A source speaking to The Sun disclosed, "Charleen split from her boyfriend earlier this year and Lucinda told ITV bosses they should get her on the show. She’s really gorgeous and fun and has a lot of Irish charm – she’s been friends with Lucinda for years so of course Lucinda would put a word in for her!"
The two friends frequently appear on each other's Instagram feeds, with their most recent joint outing at the Coachella festival in the United States just days ago, showcasing their strong bond.
Murphy's Previous Audition and Comparisons to Molly-Mae Hague
This is not Murphy's first brush with Love Island. In a 2021 interview with Irish outlet Evoke, she revealed that she had auditioned for the show in 2020, progressing through multiple rounds before narrowly missing out on selection.
Murphy explained, "I got through two rounds; there are quite a few, I was flown to England for the auditions, and I just wasn’t chosen. It is exactly how you would imagine it is, they ask you ‘what would you do in these situations in the villa, who would you go for, what is your type’ etc. They have a really set idea in their mind each year who they want."
She also noted that she is often compared to former contestant Molly-Mae Hague, which she believes may have hindered her chances during the 2020 auditions. "I am compared to Molly Mae a lot and that was the year after her that I auditioned, so I think that might have hindered me," she added.
Application Process Remains Open
While Murphy's potential involvement is still unconfirmed, the official ITV application page for Love Island remains active and open for submissions. No deadlines have been announced at this time, offering hope to aspiring islanders across the UK and Ireland.
The 2026 series promises to deliver the usual mix of romance, rivalry, and reality TV entertainment that has made Love Island a cultural phenomenon. With casting discussions underway, fans can expect more rumours and confirmations in the coming months as the summer launch date approaches.
