Former Love Island contestant George Knight has taken to social media to express his gratitude for the overwhelming support following his unexpected departure from the ITV2 dating show. The 28-year-old professional footballer, who entered the Spanish villa as one of the initial bombshells alongside Yasmin Hadlow, had coupled up with Mica Harris before viewers were stunned by his sudden exit, attributed to 'private reasons'.
George's Heartfelt Video Message
In an Instagram video, George addressed his followers, saying: 'Just wanted to take a moment and come on and say a massive, massive thank you to every single person who has reached out over the past two days, wishing me their love, their support and all their well-wishes. It has been completely overwhelming, and I am trying to get back to every message, which is pretty much impossible. But, thank you so much. I think moments like this give you a massive point of perspective on the bigger picture, and as fun and great as my six days in the villa were, it's obviously important for me to be here with my family.'
Praise for ITV Welfare Team
The Love Island star also paused to commend ITV's welfare team and executives, describing them as 'amazing' in the aftermath of his departure. He added: 'Hopefully, it's not the last you see of me, looking forward to the year ahead and thanks again, guys.'
Fans Call for His Return
It didn't take long for followers to flood the comments section with messages of support, with numerous fans urging him to make a comeback on the ITV programme in future series. One viewer wrote: 'Great contestant. Brought the humour, brains and great clothes! Hope you can return someday.' Another chimed in: 'You was making the show great, it needs you in there.' A different admirer remarked: 'Yes, you were a big character in the villa. Not the same after you left.' While another supporter posted: 'Hopefully you'll give it a go again in the future.'
Reflection on His Stint
This message follows a montage of photographs he shared days after his exit, reflecting on his time on the show. He wrote alongside that post: 'Family comes first, always. Leaving the Love Island Villa was a decision made in order to be with my family. Out of respect for them, I'd prefer not to go into any further detail.'
Love Island airs weeknights on ITV2 at 9pm.
