Ben Thompson, who played Ryan Connor on Coronation Street from 2006 to 2010, has embarked on a very different career as a vocalist. He now performs in a Frank Sinatra tribute act, as well as singing BritPop numbers and acoustic sets at weddings, celebrations, and holiday camp events.
Thompson's character Ryan first appeared on the cobbles in 2006 after being tracked down by his biological parents Nick and Wendy Neeson. A hospital mix-up meant Michelle Connor and Dean had raised the infant as their own, leading to a complex storyline involving resentment and family dynamics.
After Thompson left the role, Sol Heras played Ryan for a year in 2012, and Ryan Prescott took over in 2018, continuing to this day. Prescott recently portrayed a major storyline where Ryan's character was disfigured in an acid attack intended for Daisy Midgeley.
Discussing the plot, Prescott said: 'By this point, he's starting to see that his life is never going to be the same again... Slowly, he understands the gravity of what's happened. It'll change his life forever.'
Coronation Street continues on weeknights at 8:30pm on ITV and ITV X.
