Former England striker Peter Crouch has playfully revealed the savage two-word nickname he uses for his wife, model Abbey Clancy, comparing her to one of football's least successful nations.
The 'San Marino' Nickname Revealed
During a 2023 appearance on Capital Radio with podcast co-host Chris Stark, the 44-year-old pundit disclosed the private moniker he had kept from Clancy. "On the podcast I do with Chris, we have a nickname for you that I haven't told you," Crouch said. "And that nickname is San Marino. And the reason behind that is because San Marino is a footballing nation that hasn't... that isn't very good."
After a puzzled reaction from his 40-year-old wife, Crouch delivered the punchline, referencing the tiny nation's habit of conceding goals frequently: "And they kick off every 10 minutes!" The ex-Liverpool star erupted into laughter, while Clancy could only muster a smile and a sarcastic, "that's nice."
The Secret to a Lasting Marriage
Despite the on-air ribbing, the couple, who have been married since 2011 and together for two decades, credit a strong partnership to a blend of shared and independent interests. They are parents to four children and also co-host the popular The Therapy Crouch podcast.
In a March 2025 interview with OK! magazine, Clancy reflected on their enduring bond. "We've totally grown together over the years," she said. "When we look back... we're like, 'Bloody hell, who were we then?!' But today? We're still in sync."
She emphasised their closeness, joking that the only time she needs space is when she's ill because Peter is a "c**p nurse." However, she also humorously admitted on their podcast: "We live separate lives now. He goes to golf and I go horse riding, and then we meet at the end."

Crouch was quick to agree with his wife's sentiment, framing it as a positive. "I don't think there's anything wrong with that," he responded. "Like, not every day, because we need to do stuff together as well. But I think some part of the week, I think that's a totally healthy relationship."
