Filming for the third season of the beloved Death in Paradise spin-off Return to Paradise has officially wrapped, as confirmed by star Anna Samson. The actress, who plays Detective Sergeant Mackenzie Clarke, shared the news on Instagram alongside a series of candid behind-the-scenes photos with her co-stars.
Anna Samson Announces Season 3 Wrap
In her Instagram post, Samson wrote: "Shooting on Return to Paradise season 3 wrapped last week! This season's story is bigger and braver, and asks more of its characters than ever." She added, "A huge congratulations to the entire team for the work that went into it. I adore each and every one of ya. We can't wait to share it with you...sometime down the line."
The actress also humorously noted: "I barely took any photos because there were so many murders and waistcoats to be getting on with...and I was constantly misplacing my phone."
Fan Reactions and Anticipation
Fans expressed excitement in the comments, with one writing: "Amazing News!!! Really excited to see what happened next!" Another said: "Amazing news, congratulations!!! Can't wait to see the masterpiece of season 3! Great photos of you all!" A third fan added: "Ah brilliant. Looking forward to this in the UK. Wish they'd do a crossover with either Beyond Paradise or Death in Paradise."
Critical Acclaim for Season 2
The second series of Return to Paradise was praised by viewers, with one IMDB reviewer calling it "better than Death in Paradise" and noting: "Anna Samson as DS Mackenzie Clarke is most impressive as the tenacious detective on loan from the British police." Others described the series as "unexpectedly excellent" and "full of charm."
What to Expect in Season 3
Earlier this year, the BBC revealed details about the upcoming third season, hinting that Mackenzie will continue to deal with the fallout from the season two finale. Despite her determination to move on, she struggles to ignore her heart. The synopsis reads: "DS Mackenzie Clarke is back, fresh from having wrecked another of Glenn's (Tai Hara) weddings and determined never to follow her heart again. But ignoring her heart won't be easy."
The arrival of her mother Jillian (Kerry Armstrong) tests Mack's resolve, while the new pathologist Leo (Jacob Collins-Levy) brings undeniable charm. Meanwhile, Glenn, who has gone away to 'find himself', poses another puzzle for Mack to solve.
Seasons one and two of Return to Paradise are currently available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
