Ruth Langsford Opens Up About Therapy Journey Following Eamonn Holmes Split
Ruth Langsford has candidly revealed that she turned to therapy following her split from Eamonn Holmes, prompted by a persistent friend who had also navigated a difficult divorce. The Loose Women anchor, 54, and her former This Morning co-host announced their plans to divorce over two years ago, and she has now addressed the professional help she sought to process the separation.
Initial Apprehension Gives Way to Breakthrough
The television favourite, who shares 23-year-old son Jack with Eamonn, admitted she was initially apprehensive about counselling. "I don't need to see a counsellor, to tell me I'm sad," she recalled thinking. However, after her friend "pecked my head for so long," Ruth eventually agreed "to shut her up," only to discover it was the "best thing I ever did." She continues with therapy to this day.
Speaking to Rylan Clark on BBC Radio 2, Ruth explained the unique value of professional guidance. "With your friends they're always on your side really and they will stand by you whatever decisions you make or however you're feeling, they'll hold you up," she said. "A counsellor is very different, they look at the bigger picture, they don't know you and they never tell you what to do."
Finding Light in Dark Times
Ruth noted that her counsellor helped her shift perspective during a particularly challenging period. "Everything felt so dark and she said, 'Just use that energy that you're feeling anger and sadness, try and bring that energy here and find your light,'" she shared. This approach proved instrumental in her healing journey.
Moving Forward with an Open Mind
While Ruth has released her memoir Feeling Fabulous and is gradually moving on from the split, she clarified she's not ready to dive back into dating. "I'm not making any plans," she told Woman magazine. "I'm not doing the kind of, 'I will never live with another person. I will never have a relationship. I'll never get married.' Never say never!"
She emphasized maintaining an open mindset: "The answer is I have not set any limits on anything. That's my rule in life. Open mind, open heart, no limits, carry on, find the joy and who knows what will happen." Ruth also expressed comfort in her independence, enjoying the solitude of her own company.
Meanwhile, Eamonn Holmes has moved on romantically, regularly attending events and going on holidays with girlfriend Katie Alexander since their separation. Ruth's journey highlights the importance of seeking support during life's transitions, proving that sometimes the best advice comes from those who have walked similar paths.
