Scott Mills previously admitted he would have fired himself for going to work drunk, before being sacked by the BBC over a personal conduct allegation. The breakfast show host was axed on 30 March after being taken off air the previous Tuesday.
The BBC's decision relates to a 2016 police investigation into 'serious sexual offences' against a teenage boy. Mills was questioned under caution but the case was dropped due to lack of evidence. The Mirror understands the sacking is linked to this individual.
Mills has not commented on his recent dismissal, but in a 2012 interview with Now Magazine he spoke about struggling with alcohol after his boyfriend died of a drug overdose. He said he would 'wake up in the evening and drink two bottles of wine or a bottle of spirits in front of the TV' as a 'way to escape'.
Discussing a time he went on air drunk, Mills said: 'That could have been a massive f*** up for me. Even I would've sacked me. But thank God for Radio 1 – they knew about Mitch and why I was having a bad time.'
The BBC stated: 'While we do not comment on matters relating to individuals, we can confirm Scott Mills is no longer contracted to work with the BBC.' He had replaced Zoe Ball on the Radio 2 Breakfast Show in 2025, calling it a 'dream come true'.
