BBC Scotland Presenter Nick Sheridan Dies at 32 After Short Illness

BBC Scotland presenter Nick Sheridan has died at the age of 32 after a short illness, the corporation announced on Thursday morning.

Sheridan, originally from Wexford, Ireland, had worked in broadcasting for over a decade. He joined the BBC in 2018 and presented programmes including Reporting Scotland, Drivetime, the Nine and Seven Days.

Gary Smith, BBC Scotland's head of news, paid tribute, saying: 'He was a hugely talented journalist, presenter and author - and one of those rare people who light up the lives of everyone around them. Funny, clever, kind. A lovely man.'

First Minister Humza Yousaf also expressed his condolences during First Minister's Questions, describing Sheridan as an 'extremely talented journalist and author' who would be 'greatly missed'.

Sheridan had previously worked for Ireland's national broadcaster RTE, reporting and presenting the young person's news programme News2day, before moving to the foreign affairs desk. He left his staff post at BBC Scotland to focus on writing children's books but continued as a regular freelance presenter.
