Hollywood icon Shirley MacLaine, aged 91, was photographed enjoying a sunny day in Malibu over the weekend. The Terms of Endearment star made a rare public appearance on Saturday, having lunch before her birthday on April 24.
The Oscar-winning actress was seen leaving a Malibu restaurant, leaning on an aide's arm for support. She wore a comfortable brown cardigan over a matching t-shirt and grey sweatpants.
MacLaine was previously seen in January dining at the celebrity hotspot Nobu. The actress, older sister of Hollywood legend Warren Beatty, 89, has largely stayed out of the spotlight in recent years.
Career and Longevity
MacLaine's screen career began in 1955 with Alfred Hitchcock's The Trouble With Harry, though she was already a Broadway star. She has spoken candidly about habits that contributed to her longevity, including dance training from age three to 67. 'It taught me discipline, loving music, working with people and dealing with pain,' she told People.
Oscar Win and Later Roles
Despite classic films in the 1950s and '60s, she won her only Oscar for 1983's Terms of Endearment, which also won Best Picture, Director, Adapted Screenplay, and Supporting Actor for Jack Nicholson. Later performances include Bewitched (2005), Bernie (2011), and The Secret Life of Walter Mitty (2013).
In recent years, she appeared in Only Murders in the Building (2022) and American Dreamers (2025). She revealed to Extra in 2024 that she planned to work on her 90th birthday, reflecting her enduring work ethic.
Reflections on Hollywood
MacLaine noted that Hollywood has changed with streaming services: 'The glamour's gone out a bit, I'm afraid.' Despite fewer public appearances, she maintains a quiet presence in Malibu and a ranch in New Mexico.
