Sydney Sweeney has opened up on whether she would go into adult content like her Euphoria character. It comes as fans continue to remain disgusted at some of the racy scenes she appeared in on the hit show.
Cassie's Descent into Adult Content
During the final season of Euphoria, lead star Cassie Howard, played by Sydney, 28, leaned into the world of adult content. In a bid to become famous, she opted to get as many people talking about her as possible by stripping off and showing as much skin as she could. This meant taking on some disgusting roles, including dressing up as a dog and a baby, which horrified viewers.
Sydney's Personal Stance
In a new interview with Vanity Fair, Sydney insisted that Cassie's outlook on life was not her own. She also claimed that it was thanks to the show's creator Sam Levinson for making it seem so convincing she would go into adult content. She said: "He sent me all the scripts and it already had all of Cassie's scenes in it, the [adult content] scenes. And he called me afterwards, and he was talking about it, and we talking through it all."
"He asked me how I felt about it, and I told him, 'Look, I'm playing a character.' Do I agree with all of Cassie's decisions? Would I personally make these choices? No, of course not. But I'm an actor and that's my job," she added. "This is Cassie's life and to be able to do her justice and play her how she's to be played is to bring Sam's vision to life and to play Cassie in the most vulnerable and insane way possible."
Understanding Cassie's Motivation
Sydney would say that Cassie has been desperate "to be loved" by anyone and everyone throughout the entire course of the show. She added Cassie needed to be validated by other people in order to feel like someone, which led to the adult content as a means to feel respected.
Fan Reactions and Creator's Defense
Fans were left horrified when they watched blonde bombshell Sydney slip into outfits such as the baby costume, as many felt it "crossed a line." She also was seen indulging in other kinks, including a bizarre "sploshing" phenomenon, where people bring in messy foods to the bedroom. But creator Sam was quick to hit back at the hate, saying Sydney had almost forced him to include the nudity. At first he was hesitant to show off so much of Cassie's skin, but claimed Sydney hit back, saying: "Are you kidding?" He recalled her saying: "It's like, I'm playing an [adult content] model. You're telling me you're going to, like, skirt around it?"
