Shakira Teases New World Cup Anthem 'Dai Dai' with Burna Boy
Shakira Teases World Cup Song 'Dai Dai' with Burna Boy

Shakira is back with a new anthem for the FIFA World Cup 2026. The Colombian superstar shared a minute-long teaser clip on Thursday of a new song titled 'Dai Dai,' which she announced as the official song for the upcoming tournament. In her social media post, she also tagged Afrobeats sensation Burna Boy, hinting at a collaboration.

A Glimpse of the Track

The teaser, filmed at Maracaná Stadium in Rio de Janeiro, shows Shakira on the field surrounded by dancers. Singing in English, she delivers lyrics such as 'Here in this place / You belong' and 'What broke you once / Made you strong,' with a male voice harmonizing in the background. According to her post, the full song will be released on May 14.

World Cup Legacy

Shakira is no stranger to World Cup anthems. Her iconic song 'Waka Waka (This Time For Africa)' served as the official track for the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa, becoming a global hit. Now, she aims to repeat that success with 'Dai Dai.'

Tournament Details

The FIFA World Cup 2026 kicks off on June 11 with Mexico facing South Africa at Azteca Stadium in Mexico City. The final is scheduled for July 19 at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, just outside New York City.

Another Anthem in the Mix

'Dai Dai' is not to be confused with Coca-Cola’s official anthem for the tournament, a reimagining of Van Halen’s 'Jump.' That track features Colombian singer J Balvin, drummer Travis Barker, pop/R&B singer Amber Mark, and guitarist Steve Vai. Mark’s crystalline voice opens the song with the original English lyrics, while Vai transforms the iconic guitar riff and Barker amplifies the percussion. The biggest difference comes from Balvin, who wrote a new verse in Spanish over production by his collaborator L.E.X.V.Z, described as 'Brazilian funk with hard strings, kind of like hip-hop.' Balvin noted that the original 'Jump' is not a fútbol song, so he infused it with Latin love and passion for the sport.

Shakira, with her deep connection to football anthems, undoubtedly understands that passion well.
