Xbox is celebrating its 25th anniversary in style, and some lucky fans will receive a free limited edition Xbox Series X console later this year. The announcement was made during the Xbox Games Showcase, where the new X25 variant was unveiled.
Who Is Eligible for the Free Console?
At the Fan Fest event in Los Angeles, Xbox CEO Asha Sharma took the stage after the showcase and told attendees to check their badges. Those with 'Fan' written on them will receive a complimentary X25 console. This excludes press and creators present at the event.
Design and Features of the X25 Console
The X25 edition pays homage to the original 2001 Xbox, featuring translucent lurid green plastic panels that reveal the internal components. It comes with a matching controller made from the same material. Both the console and controller are set to go on sale in November 2026, though pricing has not yet been announced.
The giveaway was met with enthusiastic applause from the crowd, as most attendees were fans. The consoles will be shipped to winners later this year.
Future Fan Fest Events
Xbox plans additional Fan Fest events in Cologne, London, Mexico City, Seattle, Sydney, Tokyo, and Toronto throughout 2026. It remains unclear whether attendees at these events will also receive free consoles.
The Games Showcase also featured major announcements, including release dates for Gears of War E-Day and Halo Campaign Evolved, along with new trailers for Fable and Clockwork Revolution. Both Gears of War E-Day and Clockwork Revolution were confirmed as Xbox console exclusives.
