The Elemis pro-collagen marine cream, a favourite of celebrities such as Kate Hudson and Molly-Mae Hague, is renowned for its hydrating and collagen-boosting properties. However, its £65 price tag can be a deterrent. Now, Superdrug has launched the optimum collagen day cream at £15, promising similar benefits with key ingredients like collagen amino acids and hydrating agents.
A beauty reviewer tested both creams over two weeks, applying them alone and under makeup to compare hydration, glow, and skin reactions. The Elemis cream, featuring padina pavonica algae and chlorella, left the skin dewy and reduced the appearance of fine lines without causing breakouts. The Superdrug alternative uses soybean oil, squalane, and hyaluronic acid instead of algae, offering a more affordable formulation.
While the Superdrug cream shares the same collagen amino acids and includes antioxidants like radish extract and vitamin E, it lacks the algae-derived ingredients that contribute to Elemis's higher cost. The reviewer noted that both products performed well, but the Elemis cream provided a more noticeable plumping effect. Ultimately, the choice may come down to budget and preference for specific ingredients.
