Anya Hindmarch's Universal Bag Returns to Aldi and Ocado

Anya Hindmarch has relaunched her Universal Bag, a sustainable tote made from 100% recycled plastic, now available at Aldi for £9.99 and Ocado for £13. The bag, which debuted in 2021, is part of Hindmarch's ongoing 'I Am Not a Plastic Bag' project, first launched in 2007 to reduce single-use plastic waste.

The new Aldi edition features the supermarket's signature navy, orange, red and white colours, with a shoulder handle and Hindmarch's googly eyes logo. The Ocado version, available online-only from late October, retains the classic purple-panelled straps and recycling logo motif. Both bags are certified under the Global Recycling Scheme (GRS) and are designed for durability.

Hindmarch's 2007 cotton canvas tote, sold at Sainsbury's, sold nearly 100,000 units on launch day and helped drive the UK government's plastic bag charge. However, single-use plastic bag sales rose 7% between April 2024 and April 2025, with 437 million sold, highlighting the continued need for reusable alternatives.

The Universal Bag is produced in collaboration with the Solent Group, the sustainable company behind the original 2021 design. Hindmarch's label, known for playful accessories, has maintained sustainability as a core focus since its founding in 1987.
