Bridgerton Actress Makes Bold Fashion Statement at London Fashion Week
Genevieve Chenneour, the 28-year-old actress known for her role as Clara Livingston in the popular Netflix period drama Bridgerton, turned heads at the Poet-Lab show during London Fashion Week on Friday. The star made a striking entrance wearing a completely sheer polka dot poncho with no bra underneath, covering her breasts with her hands as she arrived at the event.
A Daring Ensemble with Polished Details
Chenneour's fashion-forward look featured a ruffled high neckline on the transparent poncho, which she paired with a silver metallic ruched maxi skirt and black leather stilettos. Her hairstyle was slicked back in a wet-look finish, complemented by elegant pearl drop earrings that completed the sophisticated yet daring ensemble.
Fashion Appearance Follows Serious Safety Concerns
The glamorous fashion week appearance comes as Chenneour has been increasingly vocal about women's safety issues in London. The actress recently revealed to the Daily Mail that she has been the victim of multiple attacks in the capital, including an assault near Oxford Circus last month where a man described as black, 6ft 3ins tall and wearing dark clothing elbowed and body-checked her with full force.
This incident followed an attempted mugging at a Kensington coffee shop in February that left her with a concussion. While one perpetrator, Zacariah Boulares, 18, received a 22-month prison sentence for the attempted theft, an accomplice who threatened to stab Chenneour remains at large.
A Pattern of Harassment and Institutional Failure
Chenneour has described these attacks as part of a broader pattern affecting women in London. "I have been followed by a car full of men. I have been chased down a road. I have been groped more times than I can count," she told the Daily Mail. "These experiences accumulate and they shape your entire life. That is the reality for so many women."
The actress emphasized that women are constantly adapting their behavior for safety: "We alter our clothes. We avoid wearing headphones. We share our live location. We take Ubers the moment it gets dark. This is no longer a luxury. It is a safety protocol."
Previous Comments on Beauty and Targeting
Back in December, Chenneour made headlines when she claimed thieves had targeted her "because I'm beautiful" while attending a private members' club launch in Soho. At that event, she wore a sheer star print skirt and crop top, flashing her matching bra and thong underwear during photo opportunities.
She explained her perspective: "They picked on me because I'm beautiful. When you're beautiful, people want something from you. And if they can't have you, they want to prove that they've got some power over you."
Call for Systemic Change and Support
Chenneour is advocating for meaningful changes to protect women in London. She questions why safer or subsidized travel options aren't being prioritized for women who feel unsafe using public transportation. "If women are relying on private transport because the state cannot protect us on the streets, then there is a very real question around why safer or subsidised travel options are not being prioritised for women," she stated.
The former Team GB artistic swimmer turned actress describes the current situation as "a consistent pattern of violence, fear and institutional failure" and notes that despite numerous incidents, "not one of the men involved has ever faced a meaningful consequence."
Chenneour's dual appearance at London Fashion Week and her ongoing advocacy work highlight the complex reality facing women in the public eye—navigating both glamorous public events and serious personal safety concerns in urban environments.
